The Music of Howard Hewett

As I have always maintained, the music of today aint nothin’ compared to the music from the 60s-90s. No matter the genre, the music of yesteryear was made to stand the test of time. Will anyone want to listen most of today’s Pop/R&B artists 30 years from now? In 30 years, folks will still be listening to Luther Vandross, James Brown, Rod Stewart, Aretha Franklin, Beatles, Earth, Wind & Fire & Rolling Stones. Timeless music. One must add the music of Howard Hewett to this list as he still stands as one of the best pure vocalists of the urban contemporary era. If I were to rate my top 10 male vocalists of all time, this brother will be up in there. Collected here are some of my favorite cuts from Hewett, mostly from his solo work (check out his work with Shalamar).

Kashif is the reason a lot of 1980s R&B sounds the way it does — and the reason you can hear the difference between a synth bassline played by someone who understood bass and one programmed by someone who didn't. This is a producer's playlist, and the producer is everywhere.
